Cariloop, a Caregiver Support company that helps families plan for and manage the care of their loved ones, recently debuted its Caregiver Scholarship and awarded two students whose caregiving responsibilities impacted their educational pursuits.
Caregivers face a unique set of obstacles when pursuing higher education. In addition to handling academic responsibilities, extracurriculars and work, they also have the added responsibility of taking care of others. Whether a student is caring for children, aging relatives, loved ones with disabilities or partners with health challenges, the scholarship seeks to support these caregivers so they can afford to pursue their dreams of higher education.
Each scholarship recipient faced their own set of challenges and responsibilities outside of school as they cared for loved ones in their lives. The first navigated a complex home situation that included caring for those impacted by drug use, while the other came face-to-face with the challenges of fighting multiple cancer battles. These caregivers are now pursuing their goals of entering the healthcare field and helping others in their own unique care journeys.
“As we pursue our vision of creating the global standard for the way we support caregivers, families and each other, we were honored to take the next step forward by creating this scholarship to help these two individuals who have given so much of themselves for their loved ones,” said Elizabeth Keeler, Impact Manager at Cariloop. “We are committed to continuing this scholarship process and helping more student caregivers each year so they can afford to pursue their dreams of higher education.”
Each year, scholarship recipients will be selected by Cariloop’s team of Education Coaches who guide caregivers and families through the educational process. For example, these coaches can attend IEP and 504 meetings as a companion to the parent; assist members with the college application process and provide insight into approaching college application essays; find available scholarship opportunities or financial options; and provide more customized support or care options for children with specific learning challenges or behavioral difficulties.
This scholarship creation is part of Cariloop’s commitment as a Public Benefit Corporation, in which Cariloop commits to reinvest a portion of the company’s collective time, financial resources and services into the communities it serves to create a material positive impact on society as a whole.
